A friend recommends a woodworking channel, but several YouTube channels have similar names. Some contain short reposts while another publishes full lessons. Identifying the intended creator is the first useful step toward a weekly learning list.

Confirm the name at the source

This endpoint requires channel_name; the documentation uses LinusTechTips as its example. Supply a channel name rather than the title of an individual video. Ask your friend for the original homepage and check the visible identity against the recommendation. A name lookup cannot decide which creator your friend meant.

Save the ID with a reason to return

Inspect the returned channel ID and keep it beside the submitted name, source homepage, lookup date and recommendation notes. A personal worksheet might say “woodworking candidate,” followed by the verified identifier and “useful for introductory joinery.” Those are your organizational columns, not a promised response schema.

Select lessons after identifying the channel

Check the requirements of the next endpoint before using the ID. This lookup does not supply a complete video list or certify teaching quality. Browse the channel or use an appropriate content lookup, then watch a lesson to check its tools, materials and assumed experience. Base learning recommendations on what you have actually reviewed.

Reconcile duplicate recommendations carefully

Merge entries using verified identifiers while preserving each friend's reason for recommending them. If someone supplies only an ambiguous display name, mark that entry for confirmation. The outcome should take you back to the intended channel without repeating the search. It does not subscribe to the channel or schedule notifications; arrange those separately if you need them.

Request URL and parameters

GET https://api.trmesh.com/openapi/api/v1/youtube/web/get_channel_id

Parameter Type Required Meaning
channel_name string Yes Channel name

Run the Python example

Install requests and set TRMESH_API_TOKEN in your environment. Replace the sample identifiers with the public object you intend to inspect. Example IDs may no longer be available.

import os
import requests

# Read your own developer key from the server environment.
url = "https://api.trmesh.com/openapi/api/v1/youtube/web/get_channel_id"
params = {
    "channel_name": "LinusTechTips"
}
response = requests.get(
    url, params=params, timeout=30,
    headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['TRMESH_API_TOKEN']}"},
)
response.raise_for_status()
payload = response.json()
print(payload) # Inspect the actual response before mapping fields
