You are new to Reddit and do not know which communities to follow. A home feed mixes news, questions and jokes, so scrolling alone leaves few useful leads. Start with a small sample and turn it into a list of discussions worth exploring.

Choose a browsing lens

language defaults to en-US and sort defaults to BEST. The parameter table also supports HOT, NEW, TOP, CONTROVERSIAL and RISING. Keep one setting for the first observation and record it. Switching to NEW changes the selection; it does not demonstrate that earlier topics lost interest. A home feed is not a complete feed for a particular subreddit.

Keep leads rather than broad conclusions

Read the actual returned material and note a community lead, source post, question to investigate and reason for keeping it. A desk-setup discussion might suggest researching cable organization. That is a useful next question, not evidence for a claim about every member of the community.

Preserve pagination and exclusions

Use the documented after pagination parameter without inventing its next value. filter_posts excludes specified post IDs in the documented t3_ format, with at most one hundred entries. Record exclusions so a colleague can explain differences in the sample. need_format controls cleaning and formatting; it is not a credibility assessment or a summary feature.

Finish with places to read next

Choose a few communities or questions and attach a source and a reason to each. If nothing relevant appears, record that result rather than paging indefinitely. A later observation can use the same conditions, but it remains a recommendation sample. Your deliverable is an exploration list, not a ranking of all Reddit interests.
