Start with an account you can identify
Several photographers may share the same display name. Before preparing a collaboration brief, obtain the Instagram user ID from an already verified account record or a profile supplied by the person. This lookup accepts user_id, not a display name. Treating the first name-search result as the intended person can send every later selection and conversation in the wrong direction.
Compare profile clues without overstating them
The returned user information includes timeline media and a high-resolution profile picture. These can help compare the account with the public profile you meant to inspect. A matching portrait does not establish identity, and similar photography does not establish ownership. If the current presentation differs from earlier records, keep the discrepancy visible and check the account directly rather than inventing an explanation.
Leave a useful handoff record
For a hypothetical interior-photography shortlist, record the user ID, original profile source, review date, and unresolved questions. Add selected work links as editorial notes. A proposed collaboration category is your judgment, not a recommendation supplied by the lookup. Confirm contact details and permission separately; access to a profile picture does not grant promotional rights. Passing a stable identifier to a colleague also prevents a later nickname change from breaking the trail.
