You are new to Reddit outdoor discussions and do not know where to begin. Keyword searches produce isolated posts. The explore feed can provide a broader navigation map before you choose specific conversations.

Read the discovery structure first

The contract describes recommended-community carousels, parent categories, detailed categories, and a flattened topics list. Keep labels with their identifiers so each entry retains its scope. Use the actual response rather than expecting a fixed count from descriptive documentation.

Select a topic that supports the next step

Identifiers in the flattened list can be used with the topic-feed capability. Confirm the relevant topic before retrieving its posts. The discovery page itself is not a completed discussion collection. Suggested communities belong in a reading queue until their content and context establish relevance.

Explain the choices on your map

Record sorting, time range, and observation date. Note why particular topics became starting points. Recommendation position does not rate community quality, expertise, size, or representativeness. A useful map shows inspected entrances, unexplored branches, and the next reading task. For an unfamiliar subject, that is more defensible than declaring a best-community ranking from discovery data alone.

Run the Python example

Install requests and set TRMESH_API_TOKEN in your environment. Replace the sample identifiers with the public object you intend to inspect. Example IDs may no longer be available.

import os
import requests

# Read your own developer key from the server environment.
url = "https://api.trmesh.com/openapi/api/v1/reddit/app/fetch_explore_feed"
params = {
    "sort": "BEST",
    "time": "ALL",
    "need_format": "false"
}
response = requests.get(
    url, params=params, timeout=30,
    headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['TRMESH_API_TOKEN']}"},
)
response.raise_for_status()
payload = response.json()
print(payload) # Inspect the actual response before mapping fields
